Dearly Departed Books was created by Fred and Stephen Garza Guzman, known together as Curious Twins Tours & Events. Their San Antonio ghost tour company brings folklore, history, storytelling, and paranormal investigation together in unexpected ways. At the center of their work is a simple belief: dark stories can spark light, curiosity, and good conversation.

After decades of collecting, reading, and writing, opening a bookstore felt like a natural next chapter. The store is an ode to the classic American mall bookstore. Fred and Stephen grew up during a time when nearly every mall had one, a place where visitors could wander, explore, ask for a recommendation, and leave with a story they never expected to find. As online shopping grew, many mall bookstores disappeared, along with countless used and independent bookshops.

Dearly Departed Books honors those bookstores while celebrating everything a bookstore can still be: a place for community, discovery, conversation, and a shared love of reading.

The bookstore also serves as a home for the many stories and projects created by the Curious Twins. Visitors can learn about their ghost tours, festivals and events, writing projects, and ongoing work in historic preservation.
